Navigating Toward a Strong Future of Responsible Growth

As the Port of Anacortes enters its second century of operations with its 100th anniversary in 2026, it will need strong, experienced leadership on the Port Commission team. Bob Papadakis will share his decades of leadership experience, along with his deep community roots, and a vision for balanced growth to chart a course ensuring that the Port of Anacortes remains strong, sustainable, and thriving for years to come.

Meet Bob Papadakis

Committed to Balanced Growth, Community, and Access

Bob and his family have proudly called Anacortes home since 2000. With two AHS graduate sons—one in Naval Aviation and the other in software engineering—Bob is now seeking a seat on the Port Commission to continue his lifelong commitment to public service. A U.S. Naval Academy graduate with a maritime career that includes conning Navy aircraft carriers, Bob brings extensive experience in federal operations, budgeting, and environmental review processes. He’s also a recreational boater, private pilot, and advocate for preserving public waterfront access while supporting responsible economic growth at the Port of Anacortes.

Bob’s Guiding Principles

Sustainment of Port Infrastructure

The responsible, proactive sustainment of existing Port infrastructure must continue to be a top priority. We must maintain the assets that we have to execute our mission today and attract future growth.

Balanced Growth

While it is part of the Port’s mission to “develop and manage facilities and services which stimulate private job creation and commerce,” it is also the responsibility of the Port to do so in an environmentally responsible manner. Economic growth and environmental stewardship can be complementary when properly planned.

Fiscal Responsibility

Bob will work closely with the Port staff and his fellow commissioners to align planning with realistic budgeting, ensuring that the Port’s budget provides a solid fiscal foundation for its operations and future growth.

Public Access

We are a public port that acts in the best interest of its citizens. When developing properties and facilities we must always be mindful of continued public access to the beautiful, unique maritime environment that surrounds us.
